The 'Sex and the City' star will portray Dr Vivian Bearing, a university professor of English who is dying from ovarian cancer and reflects on her life by referencing the metaphysical poetry of John Donne and the beautiful intricacies of language.The play - which was written by Margaret Edson and won the Pulitzer Prize in 1999 - will be staged at the Manhattan Theater Club and is scheduled to officially open on January 26.
It will be the first time 'Wit' has enjoyed a Broadway run, although it was made into a 2001 HBO film starring Emma Thompson.
This won't be the first time Cynthia - who played lawyer Miranda Hobbes in the 'Sex and the City' TV series and the two films - has appeared on Broadway. She won a Tony Award in 2006 for her performance as a grieving mother in 'Rabbit Hole'.
The 45-year-old actress isn't the only 'Sex and the City' star to be heading to New York's world famous theatre district.
Her co-star Kim Cattrall is to star in a revival of Noel Coward's 'Private Lives' which opens in November.
