Christopher Nolan has wrapped production on ‘The Odyssey’ , a massive retelling of the famous epic poem by Homer. This was confirmed by supervising art director Samantha Englender, who gave an update on the film through Instagram including behind-the-scenes content.

Matt Damon leads the film

The movie stars Matt Damon as Odysseus the King of Ithaca on a dangerous voyage home following the Trojan War. The movie was filmed in 70mm IMAX across seven countries, and it will see Christopher Nolan return to mythic storytelling, from his Syncopy production company, working with Emma Thomas who has been a long-time partner on his films.

Joining Matt Damon in the role of Odysseus, King of Ithaca, is Tom Holland as his son Telemachus, Anne Hathaway as the loyal Penelope, Zendaya as the goddess Athena, Lupita Nyong'o as the nymph Calypso, Robert Pattinson as the messenger god Hermes, and Charlize Theron as the sorceress Circe.The huge cast of supporting roles also includes Mia Goth, Jon Bernthal, Elliot Page, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Himesh Patel, Samantha Morton, Bill Irwin, Rafi Gavron, and Shiloh Fernandez to complete one of Nolan's largest and most award-winning cast of talent.

Production on ‘The Odyssey’ began in February and spanned a sweeping array of locations—including Italy, Morocco, Malta, Greece, Iceland, Scotland, Western Sahara, and Los Angeles.
The film marks Christopher Nolan’s return to mythic storytelling and reunites him with longtime collaborators Hoyte van Hoytema, who handles cinematography, and composer Ludwig Göransson, following their work on ‘Tenet’ and ‘Oppenheimer.With a reported budget of 250 million dollars, ‘The Odyssey’ stands as one of Nolan’s most expensive directorial ventures to date. The film is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on July 17, 2026, distributed by Universal Pictures.
