They were once the favourite pop stars of hordes of teenagers. Their posters covered every spare square centimetre of wall space in their fawning fans’ bedrooms. Their every move was scrutinised with microscopic precision and their fashion statements followed to the T.

But one fine day, fate took a cruel turn for the worst and thus came their fall from grace... and how! Between themselves, they have battled a whole bunch of obstacles, ranging from eating disorders to drug abuse to alcohol addiction to fighting for custody of their children. Some of them have managed to overcome these hurdles, while others have miserably failed. And today, three of them are all set to regain that lost glory, while the fourth waits in the wings with bated breath.
We’re talking about Britney Spears, Whitney Houston, the Backstreet Boys and the Spice Girls, whose much touted comebacks will no doubt generate a lot of curiosity if they haven’t already!
Today sees the release of Britney Spears’s 12 track-album Blackout, that is the troubled former Pop Princess’ attempt at superstardom, four years after her last album, 2003’s In the Zone came out. Already generating rave reviews, all that is left to see is whether Blackout will manage to resurrect Britney’s dying career or not.
Going head-to-head with Britney, The Backstreet Boys’ 13 track-album Unbreakable is also out today. The group’s sixth studio album after 2005’s Never Gone, Unbreakable is the first Backstreet Boys album that Kevin Richardson is not a part of. Sure looks like Backstreet’s back all right minus one boy that is!

Whitney Houston too can’t be left far behind with her new compilation album titled Whitney Houston The Ultimate Collection that has 18 of Whitney’s all-time hits including I Will Always Love You and the 80s rage I Wanna Dance With Somebody. The ‘Dangerous Diva’ looks all set to give us an aural treat with this offering that is out today as well.
Speaking of Divas, on November 12th, the Spice Girls will release their Greatest Hits album containing all their hit singles which is in support of their December worldwide reunion tour entitled ‘The Return of the Spice Girls’. The album also includes a new single Headlines (Friendship Never Ends), plus another track called Voodoo.
Now, while comebacks are all very well peppered with a lot of hope, optimism and all that jazz the big question that still remains is... are the fans still around?
