All roads in Venice, Italy led to the much-talked about George Clooney-Amal Alamuddin wedding functions this weekend, with a huge ceremony on Saturday, to be followed by a civil one today. Famous names from Hollywood jet-setted into the romantic destination for the celebrations. City officials are set to close down a walkway route in front of the scenic Grand Canal for two hours while the civil marriage ceremony takes place, so as to keep the crowd away and prevent any untoward incident.
The couple arrived in the city on Friday and looked every bit in love, causing shutterbugs to go crazy as they went down the waterway on a launch aptly called ‘Amore’.
THE VENUEs Two uber-luxurious hotels were hired for the stylish celebrations. One, the Belmond Cipriani hotel on the nearby island of Giudecca with its plush suites. The main venue was reported to be the seven-star canal-front Aman Grande hotel, after which the guests had to return to the Cipriani hotel for fireworks and a party. Italian opera singer Andrea Bocelli was said to have performed.
