Christy’ box office: Sydney Sweeney addresses the film's weak performance, says 'we don't always make art for numbers'
Sydney Sweeney recently debuted on the big screen with her biopic film titled ‘Christy.’ The film, which is based on the ‘First Lady of boxing’ Christy Martin, recently made its debut in theatres; however, the box office earnings for the film so far have been extremely low. Addressing the issue, the lead actress delved into how it does not bother her, and how often films are not made simply to earn money.
Sweeney, who rose to fame after ‘Euphoria’, recently took to her social media account to address the box office issue and talk about her experience of working on the biopic. She cited that the film was one of the “greatest honors” of her life so far, and that she is “deeply proud of this movie.”
Calling Martin ‘strong and resilient’, Sweeney delved deeper into her experience, citing in the post that “We all signed on to this film with the belief that Christy’s story could save lives.” She shared that the film was meant as a way to showcase Martin’s story in the most raw way possible, and if it helped even one person come forward about their struggles, then the film and the campaign have done their job.
She ended the post by addressing the low box office numbers, saying that “So yes I’m proud. why? Because we don’t always just make art for numbers, we make it for impact. And Christy has been the most impactful project of my life. Thank you, Christy. I love you.”
