Chris Hemsworth to star in Finke Desert Race film; 'Thor' actor backs Australian motorsport story
Hollywood star Chris Hemsworth is set to star in and produce a feature film based on Australia's legendary Tatts Finke Desert Race.
According to Deadline, the Australian actor's production banner Wild State has inked an exclusive partnership with the event's organisers to develop multiple projects around the gruelling two-day motorsport competition.
The feature, which will serve as a starring vehicle for the "Thor" actor, is in early development with Ricky Staub and Dan Walser penning the script.
Wild State, which Hemsworth co-founded with Ben Grayson, is also producing unscripted content around the race, including a project following freestyle motocross legend Robbie Maddison as he competes in the event for the first time.
"Off road racing has been a passion in my family for a long time and we at Wild State are thrilled to partner with the Tatts Finke Desert Race on the eve of its 50th anniversary and bring this epic competition to a global audience," Hemsworth said.
The Tatts Finke Desert Race, one of the biggest annual sporting events in Australia's Northern Territory, is widely regarded as the country's most exciting off-road race.
It is considered among the most difficult courses in the world, held across one of the planet's most remote terrains. The event will mark its 50th anniversary in June this year.
Through Wild State, Hemsworth has previously produced his Disney+ series "Limitless with Chris Hemsworth", Netflix's "Extraction" franchise, "Crime 101" and the the upcoming Apple sci-fi mystery "Corsair Code".
The actor is currently filming for the third film in the "Extraction" franchise. He will be next seen reprising the fan-favourite Marvel superhero Thor in "Avengers: Doomsday", set to be released in theatres in December this year.
