Canada has officially chosen a film for this year’s Oscars special category. It is country’s official entry for the award show’s Best International Feature Category. Read on to find more about the matter.
‘The Things You Kill’ selected by Canada for Oscars
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film ‘All The Things You Kill’ has officially been selected as Canada’s entry for the Oscars. Alireza Khatami’s film garnered a lot of praise at the Sundance Film Festival, giving high hopes for it’s win
In a statement, he shared his thoughts on the matter, saying, “I am truly delighted that our film The Things You Kill has been selected to represent Canada at the Oscars”. He also added on about how the 8 years that went behind creating the film feel like they have been paid off with this opportunity. “What makes this moment especially meaningful to me is that Canada is making space for stories that BIPOC filmmakers have to share”, he also shared in his statement.
Last year’s entry for Canada also came from a famous BIPOC film specifically based on Iranian culture, and was called ‘Universal Language’. A year befire that, Zanye Akyyol’s film titled ‘Rojek’ was selected as the country’s entry.
About the film ‘The Things You Kill’
Made in both Turkish and Farsi languages, ‘The Things You Kill’ tells the tale of a Turkish college professor. As he is unable t accept the factors surrounding his mother’s death and the suspicions he raises in his head, everything seems to spiral out.
He ends up convincing his gardener to help in in murdering people in order to avenge his mother’s demise. Names like Ekin Koc, Erkan Kolçak Kostendil, Hazar Erguclu, and Ercan Kesal are part of the film.
