She’s better known as footballer Cristiano Ronaldo’s girlfriend. While the Portuguese footballer had his 15 seconds of Indian fame, now, it’s time for his better half, model-cum-actress Gemma Atkinson to get a taste of India.
The sexy actress will be coming to India in October and will stay here for two months to host a television show that will feature big fat Indian weddings. The show will highlight Indian culture through the different customs that take place at weddings across India. “There is so much more to India than just the slums and the poverty that is usually portrayed on screen.
The real grandeur and richness of the country comes out in the lavish Indian weddings,” says director Vivek Bohra.

Produced by his brothers Anil and Sunil Bohra, the show will have Gemma visit real weddings taking place in even the remotest villages of India, discovering Indian traditions along the way. “Every ritual has its own significance, and that’s what we want to present,” says Anil.
And why choose Gemma, a non-Indian, to host an Indian show? “Gemma’s got a certain energy about her, she’s open to meeting new people and discovering things. More so, she’s a familiar celebrity with both Western and Indian audiences, and that is essential since the show will reach out to people across the world,” explains Vivek.

The zest to explore Mahaan Bharat is evident as Gemma says she’s looking forward to coming to India. “It’s an unique concept, and I’m really looking forward to travelling across India.
I’ve heard and seen a lot about India and its culture, cuisines, fashion and places and now I’m going to be a part of it. It would be a pleasant change to try on a ghagra choli and a sari, though I’d need some help doing that!” laughs the spunky host-to-be, who will also be learning Hindi in order to converse with people during the show.
And will her beau, Ronaldo, accompany her? “He might come to visit Gemma for a couple of days, but nothing is certain as yet,” says Anil.
Once the shooting is over, Vivek and Gemma plan to co-author a book on Indian weddings. Guess India’s going to be seeing a lot of Gemma Atkinson in the coming months. Wonder what Bips has to say to that!
