The film that flags off Phase 4 of the MCU with Scarlett’s character,

Natasha Romanoff

leading the way, was postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic that forced theatres around the world to shut down. However,

Marvel Studios

boss Kevin Feige has teased that fans will be in for epic surprises, considering the character’s rich back-story that was only partly revealed in previous Marvel films. He said that the team has approached this film is “completely unexpected” ways.

This has prompted Marvel fans to cook up some rather intriguing theories that hint at the birth of a new

supervillain

for the MCU. Going by their track record of plot twists, the theory suggests that the Task Master may not be OT Fagbenle, but may not even be human at all. Going by trailer and teasers the villain may just turn out to be an Adaptoid – and hence possesses the ability to instantly mimic the fighting patterns, powers and capabilities of his enemies.

In the comic books, the Adaptoid was a famous villain who took on the form of Florence Pugh’s character

Yelena

. While the trailer does hint at the character dying, prompting Black Widow to put on her jacket (seen in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’) as a tribute, this may just give way to another supervillain to be wary about.

The film is now scheduled for a November 6, 2020 release.
