Mark Ruffalo, one of the original six cast members of the multi-billion dollar ‘Avengers’ franchise, took to Twitter to clap back at ‘The Godfather’director
Francis Ford Coppola calling Marvel films ‘despicable’.
In a now-deleted tweet, the actor politely disagreed with the film legend, pointing out, "Back in the day, people thought rock 'n' roll and hip-hop weren't music and despicable too."
His reactions come after ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ director
James Gunn issued a statement on Instagram, to draw reference to the famed director’s gangster-films, and say “Many of our grandfathers thought all gangster movies were the same, often calling them ‘despicable’.”
Leaving the harsh words for another day, the director simply said that not everyone will be able to appreciate the movies, even some geniuses, “and that’s okay,” he said.
In case you missed it, Coppola recently backed filmmaker Martin Scorsese's remarks, comparing Marvel superhero films to a "theme park". Agreeing with the director's comments, Coppola, as quoted by Deadline, said, "When Martin Scorsese says that the Marvel pictures are not cinema, he's right.".
Citing a reason for their shared thoughts, he added, "because we expect to learn something from cinema, we expect to gain something, some enlightenment, some knowledge, some inspiration. I don't know that anyone gets anything out of seeing the same movie over and over again. Martin was kind when he said it's not cinema. He didn't say it's despicable, which I just say it is."
