Avatar 4 has officially commenced principal photography, signaling the next phase of James Cameron's epic sci-fi saga. Actor Stephen Lang, who portrays Colonel Quaritch in the franchise, shared a glimpse behind the scenes with an Instagram post, marking the beginning of the filming process for Avatar 4. In the photo, Lang dons a motion capture suit featuring Colonel Quaritch's name, captioned with a playful nod to the character: "Deja Blu all over again." The post generated excitement among fans eagerly anticipating the upcoming installment in the Avatar series.

Lang's announcement aligns with director James Cameron's recent update on the progress of Avatar 4. Despite initial plans to start principal photography after the release of Avatar 3, Cameron revealed that parts of Avatar 4 have already been shot. The decision stemmed from a planned time jump within the storyline, with Cameron explaining, "We see them and then we go away for six years and we come back. And so the part where we come back is the part we haven't shot yet. So we'll start on that after three is released."



Facing multiple delays since its announcement in 2010, Avatar 4 has encountered challenges, including last June's delay due to WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Nonetheless, Cameron and producer Jon Landau confirmed in 2022 that the first act of Avatar 4 had been filmed, earning praise for Cameron's script. As the schedule stands, Avatar 4 is set to hit theaters 20 years after the original release, making its debut in December 2029.

Returning alongside Lang for Avatar 4 are Sam Worthington, Zoë Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, and Britain Dalton. Having completed filming for Avatar 3 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the cast and crew navigated through challenging post-production processes. Avatar 3 introduces new tribes, including fire and wind-based factions, setting the stage for the subsequent sequel. Despite speculations about the title, Avatar 3 is yet to receive an official name.
