Avatar 3: James Cameron announces official title 'Fire and Ash', confirms December release

The much awaited Avatar 3 has got an official title and it promises to be a fiery adventure. This film, which serves as the sequel to 2022’s Avatar: Way of Water, is titled Avatar: Fire and Ash. At the the D23 Expo in California on Saturday, director James Cameron made the official title announcement in the presence of lead actors Zoe Saldaña and Sam Worthington.

Confirming the deets, the makers also shared on X, “Just announced at #D23, our title for the next Avatar film: Avatar: Fire and Ash. Get ready to journey back to Pandora, in theaters December 19, 2025." Describing the concept of the movie, Cameron told Variety, “You’ll see a lot more of Pandora that you never saw before. It’s an insane adventure and a feast for the eyes, but it’s also got very high emotional stakes, more than ever before. We’re going into really challenging territory for all the characters you know and love.” The filmmaker had reportedly shot for 'Fire and Ash' back-to-back with 'Avatar: The Way of Water'.

Avatar 3 will also feature, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Britain Dalton, Jack Champion, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Bailey Bass, Joel David Moore, Edie Falco and Dileep Rao. Avatar: The Way of Water and Avatar: Fire and Ash, both penned by Cameron, Rick Jaffa, and Amanda Silver, were initially envisioned as a single film. However, as the writing progressed, Cameron realized there was too much content to fit into one movie and decided to divide the story into two parts.

Avatar: The Way of Water was one of the highest grossing films of 2022, minting nearly $2,923,706,026 at the worldwide box office, at the end of its theatrical run.
