Armie Hammer denies Robert Downey Jr. paid for his rehab, credits actor for support and advice
During a recent appearance on ‘Piers Morgan Uncensored,’ Armie Hammer discussed the impact of the sexual abuse allegations brought against him in 2021. These allegations, which included accusations of rape, engaging in cannibalism fantasies, and coercing partners into BDSM scenarios, led to Hammer exiting several projects and being dropped by his publicist and agent. Despite an LAPD investigation, no criminal charges were filed, and Hammer has consistently denied the allegations, asserting that all his relationships were consensual.
Hammer shared with Morgan that, amid the fallout, some of his Hollywood colleagues reached out to offer support, including Robert Downey Jr. However, Hammer clarified that contrary to some reports, Downey did not pay for his rehab. He acknowledged that Downey was indeed supportive but was hesitant to go into details, not wanting to involve others in his situation.
Hammer described Downey's support as part of a broader pattern within Hollywood, where those who have battled addiction tend to support others in similar struggles. He noted that Downey advised him to ‘sit down, shut up, and everything is going to be OK,’ which Hammer found helpful.
When asked if other notable actors like Leonardo DiCaprio or Julia Roberts had reached out, Hammer said they had not. He emphasized that he preferred to focus on those who did show their support, mentioning Luca Guadagnino as particularly vocal in his backing. Hammer expressed his appreciation for the support while understanding the precarious nature of his situation, acknowledging that anyone who voiced support for him could face backlash.
Morgan also inquired about Johnny Depp, Hammer's co-star from ‘The Lone Ranger.’ Hammer confirmed they had communicated a few times, but their conversations were more casual and did not delve into their respective controversies.
Addressing the more sensational allegations, Hammer firmly denied being a cannibal, explaining that the idea was a misinterpretation of hyperbolic expressions similar to saying a baby is so cute one could ‘eat them up.’ Regarding an allegation that he branded a former partner, Hammer clarified that while he did use a small knife to trace the letter ‘A,’ it was not a branding in the traditional sense and did not draw blood.
Hammer also appeared on Bill Maher's “Club Random” podcast, where he described being "canceled" as liberating. He admitted to some past "bad behavior," including infidelity and emotional insensitivity, but emphasized the importance of taking accountability and learning from his actions. Reflecting on the LAPD investigation, Hammer noted that it lasted two and a half years, during which authorities thoroughly examined his communications and other evidence but ultimately did not pursue charges.
