Ariana Grande as Glinda in ‘Wicked’ is getting all the love and appreciation. Her performance, her look, and everything about her role kept her in the headlines; including the BTS tales. Like recently we got to know Ariana Grande gave her audition for ‘Wicked’ without makeup, at the request of the director.

Yes, Jon M. Chu, the director of ‘Wicked’ shared that when Arian initially came for the audition, he wasn’t really convinced that she could play Glinda.

During his conversation with the Wall Street Journal, Chu shared that when Ariana came for the audition, she came with this impressive persona that set a higher bar than everyone else. He didn’t want Ariana’s public figure and persona to overshadow the movie’s character. During the audition, he wanted to see Glinda in her, but all he could see was Ariana Grande.

Thus, in the second round of auditions, the director asked her, “Hey, what if you came back and just didn't have any of your make-up?”

The director wasn’t sure how his request would be treated, as Ariana is such a big star. However, she didn’t question Chu at all. “She came in and did that, and I saw her in a totally new light that I'd never seen her in,” Chu shared.

Now this revelation has divided the internet. Some are bashing the director saying he couldn’t imagine a woman without makeup, while some understand Chu’s confusion as Ariana is known for iconic makeup. Thus, to see her in a different light, a little effort was needed.
