Angelina Jolie reflects on Motherhood and life lessons from raising six children

Angelina Jolie recently shared her thoughts on being a mother and gave glimpses into her children’s lives during an interview on Good Morning America. The 49-year-old actress, who has six children with her former husband Brad Pitt — Maddox (23), Pax (20), Zahara (19), Shiloh (18), and twins Knox and Vivienne (16) — called motherhood her greatest source of happiness.

She explained that her role as a mom is the most important part of her life, saying that nothing else truly matters in comparison. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jolie said, “You could take everything else away from me, and I’d still have what makes me happiest — being a mom.”

Jolie revealed that some of her children have worked with her on creative projects, which she described as a meaningful new chapter for their family. However, she noted that none of them are drawn to Hollywood careers, valuing their privacy instead.

“They’re very private individuals, especially Shiloh,” she said. Jolie reflected on how growing up in the public eye meant her kids lacked the privacy most people enjoy. She expressed her hope that they will be able to reclaim it as they grow older.

Being a mother has also pushed Angelina to better understand the world. She shared how her efforts to educate herself about global issues and foreign policy are inspired by her children.

“I feel like I’m still learning how to use my voice and figure out how to do enough,” she admitted. “When people tell me I’m using my platform as an artist, I think — isn’t that just being a person?” Her goal, she added, is to guide her children to become kind and thoughtful individuals.
