Angela Bassett, the veteran actress is perhaps best known for her portrayal of Tina Turner in What’s Love Got to Do With and for playing Queen Ramonda in the Black Panther films, including Black Panther: Wakanda Forever for which she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She has also received various accolades throughout her lifetime including two Golden Globe Awards, in addition to nominations for two Academy Awards and seven Primetime Emmy Awards.

The Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award will also be awarded to Michelle Satter, who is the founding senior director of the Sundance Institute's Artist Programmes, at the untelevised ceremony.

Mel Brooks who is now a whopping 97-years-old is a veteran comedian, actor and filmmaker and he will be honoured along with veteran film editor Carol Littleton. The Academy’s president Janet Yang said in a statement, “The Academy’s Board of Governors is thrilled to honour four trailblazers who have transformed the film industry and inspired generations of filmmakers and movie fans.”

Apparently, the majority of the Academy’s honorary awards winners have not won competitive Oscars. Mel Brooks is an exception however, having won an original screenplay Oscar for “The Producers.”
