Amal Clooney launches scholarship for Lebanese girls

Superstar George Clooney's wife Amal is launching a scholarship fund to benefit girls in her native Lebanon. The international human rights attorney, 37, has partnered with bosses at 100 Lives, an organisation working to raise awareness of the events of the Armenian genocide, to establish the Amal Clooney Scholarship. The scholarship will send one female student per year from Lebanon to the United World College in Dilijan, Armenia, to pursue a two-year international baccalaureate programme, reported Los Angeles Times.

“This scholarship will give young women from Lebanon the opportunity of a lifetime,” Amal wrote in a statement. “Cross-cultural learning and studying abroad can be transformative. I am grateful to 100 Lives for helping to open doors for these bright and talented young women.” Amal's actor husband is also involved with the organisation as a co-chair and will present the USD 1 million Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity award in Yerevan, Armenia next year.
