Aaron Taylor-Johnson is all set to play Kraven the Hunter, one of the most iconic foes of Spider-Man.
However, ahead of its release, the film faces bleak box office predictions, casting a doubt on its ability to deliver on its reported $110 million budget.
Initial projections were reported to open with $28 million to $30 million in North America, but according to ComicBookMovie.com, the revised forecast is in at a meager $20 million to $25 million.
This feeble buildup indicates the never-ending saga of Sony's standalone Spider-Man spin-offs, which have received some lukewarm response by fans and critics alike.
According to a new report from The Wrap, Sony is finally listening to the calls of Spider-Man fans as it marks the end of its "Sony's Spider-Man Universe" strategy. Apparently, the studio is looking to go back to mainline Spider-Man narratives as it is already working on the fourth Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland.
Producer Amy Pascal recently shared updates about the untitled Spider-Man 4, revealing that it will delve into the emotional fallout of No Way Home. Speaking to Deadline, Amy Pascal confirmed, “We’re starting shooting the next Spider-Man movie with Destin Daniel Cretton. He’s a wonderful director.” She added that the plot would tackle Peter Parker’s decision to abandon his personal identity to focus solely on being Spider-Man.
The strategic shift marks an apparent end to Sony's standalone saga, with Kraven the Hunter potentially proving to be the final bookend in this contentious leg of the Spider-Man saga. The studio, however still intends to continue developing shows like Spider-Noir within Spider-Man's universe.
On the cinematic side, Sony is not holding back on its co-production with Marvel Studios as Spider-Man 4 will promise to rekindle excitement among fans. The animated Beyond the Spider-Verse will also be another huge blockbuster, following the trend that its predecessor has created.
Kraven the Hunter's fate is left unknown, but if it does not work at the box office, then it might be a decision that Sony will take to focus its core Spider-Man storylines in the future. Fans are already waiting with bated breath for Tom Holland's Peter Parker as his journey promises to be a new emotional ride.
Meanwhile the recently released ‘’Venom: The Last Dance’ received a rating of 3 out of 5 and our review read, “While the climactic showdown is the film's most thrilling action sequence, elevating its tempo and excitement, the overall narrative feels somewhat lacking. Tom Hardy delivers a strong performance as Eddie and Venom, adding depth to their dynamic. However, Andy Serkis's portrayal of Knull feels underutilized, with his intentions remaining somewhat unclear. Additionally, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Juno Temple's characters have limited arcs.”
