The Garfield Movie earns Rs 80 lakh on day 1 in India

Garfield - the monday hating and lasagna-loving indoor cat is one of the most loved and well known characters across the world. The people behind the character decided to bring it to life on the big screen with ‘The Garfield Movie’ , which has Chris Pratt being the titular voice. The film revolves around Garfield, who meets his long last father Vic voiced by Samuel L Jackson and their adventures while they plan a heist. While the film is slated for release in the United States of America on May 24, it has seen a staggered release across the globe. In India, the makers roped in Varun Sharma, who is known for his role of ‘Choocha’ from ‘Fukrey’ series, to be the voice of ‘The Garfield Movie’ .

The film released in India this Friday and opened to a decent number of Rs 80 lakh, as per early estimates by Sacnilk. Despite Varun’s presence and a lot of promotion, major collection for the film has come from the English version. Around Rs 52 lakh were collected from English shows while Rs 25 lakh were made from the Hindi version and the rest came from the Tamil version. ‘The Garfield Movie’ is expected to pick up pace over the weekend as it has no big competition beside Rajkummar Rao’s ‘Srikanth’, which is in its second weekend.
‘The Garfield Movie’ has currently earned more than US $ 35 million from its international screenings and it will be interesting to see how the film opens in its home country next week.
