There seems to be just no stopping Godzilla and Kong at the Indian box office!
The film that stomped its way to the top and recorded the highest collection over the Easter weekend, has now crossed the Rs 50 crore mark. According to early estimates, 'Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire' earned an estimated Rs 4.75 crore nett on Day 5. This pushed its overall total to an estimated Rs 49.75 crore. However, the final numbers could just push the film past the 50-crore mark.
'Godzilla x Kong', has not only beaten the collections of the Bollywood film 'Crew' starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tabu and Kriti Sanon, but also become one of the fastest films to cross this milestone in just 5 days. It is now the only Hollywood release of 2024 to cross Rs 50 crore in India, beating out films like 'Dune: Part Two', 'Kung Fu Panda 4', 'Madame Web' and more.
The sequel to the 2021 film began its box office run with a collection of Rs 13.25 crore on Day 1, Rs 12.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 13.5 crore on Sunday.
It began its regular working week on a high with a collection of Rs 6 crore and a Day 5 collection of Rs 4.75 crore.
In just its first week, the film is on course to beat the lifetime collections of the 2021 film 'Godzilla vs Kong'. The film also recorded the biggest opening weekend for the Monsterverse franchise. It is also the biggest opening weekend for a Hollywood film in India in 2024.
'Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire' delves further into the histories of the Titans - Godzilla and Kong - and their origins and pits the monsters against a new villain - Scargiver.
Directed by Adam Wingard, the film stars Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Dan Stevens, Kaylee Hottle, Alex Ferns and Fala Chen.
