'Captain Marvel' box office collection Day 1: The Brie Larson starrer records the second highest opening for a Hollywood release

Marvel Cinematic Universe's 'Captain Marvel' starring Brie Larson in the titular role outshined several other Bollywood films to register a record collection of the opening day. The film recorded the second highest opening for a Hollywood release, however, remained far behind the highest opening record of 'Avengers - Infinity War'. The film is the first female-led superhero film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.The film which released on March 08 clashed with Amitabh Bachchan starrer 'Badla'.
According to the latest report on the Boxofficeindia.com, on Friday, the film has managed to rake in a total of Rs 13 crore on its opening day. There are not many Hollywood films which have crossed the Rs 10 crore mark on its opening day in India. The dubbed Hindi, Tamil and Telugu versions of the film is unlikely to attract the people to the screens.
The film was released at around 1450 locations going to 1900 screens, which is not a huge release. However, the film has managed to impress very much with the opening day figures. The film has opened better than two of the major grossers of 2019, 'Uri: The Surgical Strike' and 'Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi'.
The character Captain Marvel was first introduced in the post-credit scene of 'Avengers: Infinity War'. She will also feature in 'Avengers: Endgame', set for a release on April 26, helping the superheroes battle the mighty villain Thanos.
Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck and produced by Marvel Studios, the film also stars Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Annette Bening, and Jude Law.
