'Avatar: The Way of Water' set the cash registers ringing this holiday season. In less than 2 weeks of its release, the
James Cameron directorial has recorded the highest second weekend for a Hollywood release in India.
The film was off to an underwhelming start at the box office, raked in an estimated Rs 57 crore on its second weekend, states a report on boxofficeindia.com.
With this, the film has now beaten the Marvel superhero film 'Avengers: Endgame' to take the title of the highest second-weekend collection. The superhero film that was released in 2019 earned around Rs 52.50 crore nett.
After ending its first week with a collection of around Rs 189.50 crore, the additional Rs 57 crore takes the total of 'Avatar 2' to an estimated Rs 246.50 crore.
The sequel now stands in third place, behind Jurassic World: Dominion and Top Gun: Maverick on the list of highest-grossing Hollywood releases of 2022.
As far as its run at the Indian box office is concerned, the film may just enjoy another undisputed week, after the poor reception received by Ranveer Singh's new comedy 'Cirkus'. On the international front, trade analysts have predicted that the film will have a clear run till February because no big picture release is expected till 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.'
However, the weather is predicted to play spoilsport in the U.S. and the rise in Covid-19 cases in various international markets has threatened the final figures of the film.
