Popular Bhojpuri actors who tried their hands in politics

Bhojpuri films have grown leaps and bounds over the years. The actors of the Bhojpuri industry are known all over the country. Bhojpuri cinema mainly highlights stories based on rural life and item songs are the high points of the industry. After gaining popularity in films with their acting chops, many of them have gone on to try their hands in politics. Here we give you a rundown of actors who have tried to master it all.

Manoj Tiwari

One of the biggest stars of Bhojpuri cinema, Manoj Tiwari, initially contested for Samajwadi Party in 2009 General Election, but in 2014 he joined Bharatiya Janata Party and won the northeast Delhi against the JP Agarwal of Congress. Tiwari is known as one of the highest paid actors of Bhojpuri cinema and many of the Bhojpuri film being noticeable hits including ‘Sasural Bada Paisawala’, ‘Daroga Babu I love You’ and ‘Bandhan Toote Na’. Manoj sang the hit song ‘Jiya Ho Bihar Ke Lala’ in Bollywood blockbuster ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ and also gave his voice to Bhojpuri version of ‘Jabra Fan’ in Shah Rukh Khan’s film ‘Fan’.

Ravi Kishan

Popular face of Bhojpuri cinema, Ravi Kishan joined Indian National Congress from Jaunpur constituency in the 2014 general election. In February 2017, Kishan left the Congress party and joined Bharatiya Janata party. Ravi has given numbers of hit to Bhojpuri cinema and was awarded the most popular actor award in 2008. In Bollywood, he recognized after working with Salman Khan in blockbuster ‘Tere Naam’ as priest Rameshwar.

Pawan Singh

In 2014, Pawan Singh joined Bharatiya Janata Party and General Secretary Arun Singh formally inducted Pawan into the party by honouring him with a saffron shawl in the presence of party General Secretary and Bihar in-charge Bhupendra Yadav and Bihar state BJP unit chief Nityanand Rai.

Pawan rose to fame after releasing his song ‘Lollypop Lagelu’. In 2016, he was awarded the best male singer for the Bhojpuri film Yodha. He started her acting career from Bhojpuri movie ‘Rangli Chunariya Tohre Naam’ in 2007.

Nagma

Nagma is a vocal supporter of Indian National Congress. She had only formally become a member of the Congress party in Delhi, handling secularism and welfare of the poor and weaker sections. Nagma has worked in several languages movies and some of her Bhojpuri hits are ‘Panditji Batai Na Byah Kab Hoi’, ‘Ganga’, ‘Mai Baap’ and ‘Raja Thakur’. She made her debut to Bhojpuri cinema from ‘Panditji Batai Na Byah Kab Hoi’ with Ravi Kishan. She once also reportedly made headlines for her rumoured affair with Bhojpuri superstar Ravi Kishan. Her debut film ‘Baghi: A Rebel for Love’ with Salman Khan was reportedly Hindi cinema’s seventh highest grossing film in 1990.
