Well-known cinematographer Saket Saurabh shared his thoughts on the Bhojpuri industry. Recently, he received the Best Cinematography award for the feature film 'Surveillance'. Coming from a non-filmy background, he has established himself as an accomplished cinematographer for several years, working with many established directors and actors.
Talking to the media, Saket Saurabh talked about Bhojpuri cinema and said, "Bhojpuri movies have become popular with their own fanbase, but they're struggling because big-budget mainstream films are overshadowing them. We are aware that they face problems like stereotypes, a lack of producers, and a shortage of skilled technicians. Still, there are talented actors, directors, and writers making different kinds of movies. Many young filmmakers are starting a new era of Bhojpuri movies, hoping to make them great again."
"I see that the Bhojpuri film industry is evolving and growing in several ways. With the rise of digital platforms and the increasing globalization of entertainment, these films have the potential to reach a wider audience beyond their traditional regions. Additionally, as younger filmmakers continue to innovate and push boundaries, we can expect to see more diverse and high-quality content coming out of the Bhojpuri industry. While there are challenges in every film industry, I believe that the Bhojpuri film industry has a bright future ahead, fueled by creativity and talent", he added.
On asking if he gets a chance to direct a Bhojpuri film, which subject will he choose? He replied, "That's a very interesting question. Not many people know but I began my career with a Bhojpuri film called "Naya Pata," which was a highly experimental film, produced through crowdfunding and released by PVR Cinemas. I have observed in the past that migration is a big issue in this region, and I would like to make a film that explores the pain experienced by migrant workers".
Recently, he joined as a jury member for the academy-qualified film festival.
