Supriyo Dutta’s back with Chetana once again

It is a homecoming of sorts for Supriyo Dutta. The actor, who spent years in theatre group Chetana, is now back with the group for its new production, Rani Cruesa. Supriyo will be seen as Logician Glocaus — one of the pivotal characters in the play. Supriyo had not only worked under the direction of Chetana’s patriarch Arun Mukhopadhyay, but Suman Mukhopadhyay as well. This time, however, he will be working with Sujan Mukhopadhyay.

“Neel (Sujan) is way younger to me. I have seen his work and it appears to be very smart. After many years I am back with Chetana and it is quite exciting,” he told us.

The actor has regularly worked with the group since the late ’80s and all of ’90s, in several productions. The last time he was seen in a Chetana production was in 2001 for Suman’s Tista Parer Brittanto. He also played the iconic character of

Sancho Panza

in Arun’s directorial work, Dukhi Mukhi Joddha, an adaptation of

Don Quixote

, in 1997. Supriyo has also worked in Kangal Malshat, Gontobyo and several other plays. In fact, he continued working with Suman when the latter formed his own group, Tritiyo Sutra. “I think the last one was Agun Mukho in 2003,” he said.

Supriyo is currently working with another veteran actor, Kharaj Mukherjee, in Pore Paoa Sholo Ana.

Meanwhile, Rani Cruesa will be a stage debut for actor Saheb Chatterjee, who will be seen as King Xuthus. Nibedita Mukherjee will be seen as Queen Cruesa.
