In order to stay fit, actress
Sohini Sengupta is hitting the gym like a pro. She has taken up weight training and is also doing leg workouts on a regular basis. “I first hit the gym some five-six years back. A dear friend of mine took me there. But I suffered a gym injury and was scared to continue,” she recalled.
Meanwhile, to play her part in theatre production Nachni, she had to fall on her left foot.
“After 200 such shows, one day, I lost feeling in my left foot. This was in 2017. Also, I met with a swimming pool accident and that led to a nerve problem. That’s when I came across a pain expert at a gym last year and started training under him. All the pain was gone,” she said.
Sohini said even though her friend has been her primary inspiration, he also found support in husband Saptarshi Maulik, who is a health freak. “He told me that I need to stay fit and when I grow old, I should be able to walk straight and not limp. So, I do my groceries, walk up the stairs and rehearse for plays at night. The idea is to remain agile. The thing is, I try to balance occasional binge-eating by working out diligently,” she said.
Sohini said Saptarshi is also a hard taskmaster and gets angry when Sohini doesn’t exercise on a regular basis. “I am not as disciplined as him, but I am only trying,” she said.
