Sohag Sen completes 50 years in theatre

Around 37 years ago, the

theatre

initiative of Sohag Sen,

Ensemble

, started its journey on February 11. The same date also marks Sohag’s 50 years in theatre. To celebrate the day, the team has decided to stage its latest

play

Chhoto Chobi at the

Academy Of Fine Arts

in an evening show. Directed by Sohag, the play revolves around the lives of four or five young aspiring filmmakers who graduated from a not-so-famous film school. “This is a story of intolerance and isolation. When I say intolerance, I don’t mean it is intolerance against minorities. It is something beyond that,” the director said.

One of the main characters from the play,

Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee

, took it to the social media to wish the team and Sohag. In a long post, he wrote, “Happy birthday Ensemble. Thank you for being inclusive and one of the few theatre groups who never played out to the gallery. Tonight we celebrate 50 years of walk-the-talk of

Sohag Sen III

in theatre, the driving force of Ensemble. The strength and finesse that I keep trying to derive from her is actually a journey of creative excellence-- a roadmap that she offers her actors unconditionally. It's a huge honour to be directed by her in her new play CHHOTO CHOBI that opens tonight at Academy of Fine Arts. We all gather for the celebrations by 6pm at the auditorium where we would listen to stalwarts sharing their experiences of this dynamic arts icon followed by the play. Tickets at the door and if you have pre-booked, they will be at the counter. It's a Tuesday and there's so much to do at work. We just want a slice of your evening and I know you shall fill our hearts up. Do come (sic).”
