Written and directed by Saoli, the play depicts the journey of Sita. From her inception to the abuses that she went through — the thespian paints it all. While Saoli performs the play solo on stage, there is a large crew that joins her in chorus and music. The stage has been designed by theatre personality

Arpita Ghosh

. The play uses

classical music

with Aditi Dasgupta, Sudip Sengupta, Tushar Roy and Anirban Roy Chowdhury on the vocals. Prosenjit Sengupta plays the sarod. While Nirmalya Pal is on the flute, Arup Manna plays the tabla.

The play talks about the journey of Sita — the princess of Mithila and the queen of the supreme power. She represented soil. While telling her story, we often overlook her tough journey. In her play, Saoli explores the constant humiliation that Sita faced throughout her life. The play questions if Sita got what she deserved.

The script

also affirms that Sita wanted peace to be restored in society but had to face a lot of hatred, accusations and pain.

While talking about the play, a team member said, “We have often neglected Sita’s humane story of being a respectful lady. She belonged to the society where so-called responsibility and political decision reigned over love and honesty.”
