As Purba Paschim gears up to stage its new production, Othoi Jol, the director of the group, Soumitra Mitra, is paying a tribute to three doyens of Bengali literature, Manik Bandyopadhyay, Tarashankar Bandyopadhyay and Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay, also known as Bandyopadhyay trio. “Earlier, we staged Manik’s Diba Ratrir Kabya and Tarashankar’s Hansuli Banker Upakatha. This year, we will stage Bibhutibhushan’s Othoi Jol. I am glad that we could honour these three stalwarts through our adaptations. Also, interestingly, each of these three novels touches upon or delves into the emotional crises of extra-marital love. We are amazed to see the way such crises is handled by these three novelists in their work,” says Soumitra.
The stage adaptation of Othoi Jol is scripted by Ujjwal Chattopadhyay and is directed by
Bratya Basu, who also directed Purba Paschim’s another literary adaptation, Chaturanga.
