Kolkata Rangeela launches poster of its new play

Kar and his team members of Kolkata Rangeela have launched the poster of their upcoming play, Kukurer Lej, on Tuesday, at a city auditorium. The group also presented a few lines from the song, Totla Gaan, which is used in the play. “We wanted to do something special. Theatre groups do not always opt for such events. But a launch like this helps promote the play,” director Koushik Kar said.


The play has about eight songs. The team picked one hilarious number and performed that on stage. While Koushik has penned the lyrics, his long-time aid, Somiron, has composed the songs and the background score. “One of our team members recorded a video and fine-tuned it through apps. Now, we are forwarding it to our WhatsApp friends,” said Koushik.

So far, the team has touted the play as a political-thriller-comedy

. Written and directed by Koushik, the play will feature Gambhira Bhattacharya, besides other group members. It will be staged on September 26 at the Academy of Fine Arts. A team of 20 is working in the play. “All the characters are gender neutral. We have a set of very interesting costumes as well,” said the director, adding, “It is a blend of street-play setup and proscenium. We have prepared this play in such a way that the stage, light, electricity or any other element don’t really matter. This play is all about our acting prowess and the script. It is an original play and we all have been really working hard for months. I am sure people will like it.”
