Kobita bands to be felicitated
Bangla music made an entry into Bengali popular culture decades ago. From Bhoomi and Chandrabindoo to Cactus and Fossils — songs by these are still a rage among the youngsters. Then, a bunch of young poetry enthusiasts came up with the idea for a recitation . And since their inception, this has been working to make poetry popular among youngsters, they are now gearing up to host a felicitation event, Abrittir Carnival, for the members. According to them, leading musicians like Soumitra Ray, Sidhu, Upal Sengupta, Surajit Chatterjee and Deb Chowdhury will also grace the event, which will be held on December 6.Shovansundar Bosu, founder of the , Brishti, said, “We started our in 2003 and since then, we have been trying to highlight young talents. Bengali, as a language, has taken a back seat among children owing to the constant focus on Hindi and English. Our presentation of Bengali poems, blended with music, is an effort to reach out to the younger generation. On this occasion, we will facilitate the young performers. Brishti and Connection will perform on the day,” Shovansundar said.Poetry Kathak, Uran, Onyo Nishad, Rhythms, Poetry and Beyond, Ira, Shankhachil, Shruti Manjil, Riti, Jhorer Kheya and Sanchar will also be felicitated at the do. Earlier, elocutionist Bratati Bandyopadhyay’s rendition of poems with music became popular. But most of these groups perform live on stage.Veteran recitation artiste and theatre personality Soumitra Mitra said it is a welcome move. “These youngsters are doing something new and daring to go beyond the traditional. I encourage them,” he told us.
