Now, robot comes on city stage

We have watched

Robot

several times over on the big screen. But creating a robot for stage is not what we get to see often in Kolkata’s theatre circuit. Lokokrishti’s new production, Punoraye Ruby Ray, will stage a comedy that involves a robot, played by Monalisa Chatterjee. Penned by Jeet Satragni, the

play

will be directed by the leader of the group,

Falguni

Chatterjee. Besides Monalisa, there’s Snehendu Dewanji, Rumki Chatterjee, Sampayan Lahiri, Nikunja Sorkar, Falguni and others, who will portray the peripharal characters. Pilu Bhattacharya has composed the music.

Elaborating on the play, Falguni explained, “I think, human race is miserably competing with computers these days. Though created by us, computer has now become an enormous entity in society. But an ‘almost like a human’ can never be similar to a human being. This play is all about that. Our male protagonist creates a robot that resembles a human being. But alas! The play is dotted with comic moments and I am sure our audience will love it.”
The play revolves around a young couple, Palash, a proficient software engineer, and Baby, a smart and intelligent English teacher. Palash quits his jobs every now and then. His sole aim is to create a ‘perfect human-like robot’. The duo fight over Palash’s bohemian attitude and Baby leaves the house. Meanwhile, Palash creates an almost human-like robot. And thereby, the confusion and drama start. “As a director, I want to bring human values to the fore. In this race with computer and

artificial intelligence

, it is the human mind and heart that win. For me, that is the greatest challenge,” Falguni signed off.
