Debshankar and Subhashish to act together on stage

Debshankar Halder and Subhashish Mukhopadhyay are all geared up to stage their version of

August Strindberg

’s The Father. Directed by Ishita Mukhopadhyay of theatre group Ushnik, the play, Babai, will premiere in May. Earlier, Govind Nihalani directed a film, Pitah, based on a similar plot in 1991.

The Swedish play that delves into the intricate dramas of family life has been contemporised by the group. While the original play takes place in the west, the adaptation is based in

Purulia

. Debshankar and Subhashish will be playing two extremely layered characters, Dipankar Basu and Doctor Samanta. Veteran actress Chhanda Chattopadhyay will also be playing a pivotal role.
