Kolkata gears up with a site-specific theatre

site-specific theatre

and in this journey, we have seen quite a few innovative productions. Now, theatre group Bengharia Hate Khari has geared up to stage Rabindranath Tagore’s Bishorjan at Sukhchar Pyne Thakurbari in

While talking about the site, director Debasish Ghosh Dastidar said, “It is a magical area and it is going to be a gorgeous production. While we have done site specific theatre earlier, this is for the first time we are doing something as elaborate as this. I am sure it is going to be a fascinating experience for our audience.” Earlier too, the group has used this area as a theatre space. Around 30 theatre groups have performed here. Two theatre festivals were also arranged in this area.

While Debasish is directing the play, Himadri Sekhar De has adapted the script from Tagore’s work. The production will also feature live music composed by Sayantan Chakraborty. According to Debasish, the area sits next to the Ganges and that gives it an ethereal touch. The team has planned to start the play with the sound of high tide at twilight. Along with seasoned actors, including Ashim Deb, the play also features several talented young actors like Indranil Mukherjee,

Trina

Sarkar, Deep Sarkar, Pritam Chakraborty, Pradip Kumar Chakraborty, Bishwajit Das, Jishu Pal, Rajeshwari Pal and several others, who will be seen portraying different characters. The play will premiere on June 15 and the show will be followed by a dinner for the audience
