Arna Mukhopadhyay gets hitched with comrade

Amid the hullabaloo of his latest production,

Mahabharata

, theatre worker Arna Mukhopadhyay of Natadha tied the

knot

recently. The bride, Upabela Pal, has been his long associate in the group. “She joined the group in 2006/07 and we have been working together ever since. She was in school that time. Over the years, our bonding grew stronger. Anyway, our group is like our family and we all are very strong. While I am extremely close with all the members, with Upabela, it was a bit different. Though there was no ceremonial proposal or anything of that sort, we knew we would be together,” Arna admitted coyly.

The duo signed the registry paper on February 15. “There has not been any social marriage. Our families and some close friends were there. I dreaded the idea of too many people coming and congratulating us. Also, we were very busy with Mahabharat,” he added.

Arna’s Mahabharat was first staged on April 28 at the Academy of Fine Arts. With seasoned actors like

Koushik

Chattopadhyay and Sohini Sarkar in the lead, the play garnered quite a positive reaction. “I am glad that people, who watched the play, emphasised our teamwork. I was a bit wary on the way the play has been interpreted. I am relieved that our audience liked it. Our next show is on May 29,” the director signed off.
