Anjan Dutt, who is being lauded for his role as
Vincent Van Gogh
in
Kaushik Sen’s play,
Taray Taray
, had an interesting anecdote to share after his show on Friday. “Vincent Van Gogh shot himself on this very day, 27th July in 1890... returned to his guest house at 9 pm...It is pure coincidence that this evening I, playing the role of Vincent, pretended to shoot myself at about 9 pm. I am posting this not merely for this reason. My acting mentor, Badal Sarkar, taught me how to become a Character. Through various exercises, I learned to imbibe the pain, the joy, the desperation of a Character. As a lover of theatre I was desperate to learn, though I wanted to be a famous actor on screen. He taught me one basic thing which many young talents refuse to learn today, is to become the character somehow and just give oneself selflessly to the director. To just execute whatever the director wants yet be in the character. Whoever so the director may be,” he wrote on social media. The actor-director also mentioned Mrinal Sen, Nabyendu Chatterjee, Aparna Sen, Buddhadeb Dasgupta, Roland Joffe, Nicholaz Klotz, Chanda Dutt, Ashoke Viswanathan, Srijit Mukherji, Arindam Sil, Pratim D Gupta, Kamaleswar Mukherjee, Gautam Ghosh, Kaushik Ganguly with whom he has worked over the years and added, “I have tried to give into them as the CHARACTER. Totally, wholly...I have tried.”
