His terrace concerts and the subsequent music videos have garnered immense popularity over the years. Now, musician Upal Sengupta has started releasing the videos of this year’s gig, Amader Chhade. The first song, which was released on Saturday morning, is by Parag Baran Pal, Upal’s doctor friend, who rendered a number, Bonopoth Dhakiachhe Kadome Kadome.
“This song is actually written by a friend Udayan’s father, Amitava Bhattacharya, and I composed it about six months ago.
Parag is a friend from my college fest days. He wanted to sing this song but I wasn’t sure. Then one day, he sang the song and sent it to me on
WhatsApp. I was convinced. There is a sentiment in the song that he rendered effortlessly,” said Upal.
Every year, Upal, his friend Abhijit Roy (Tenny) and the team behind the terrace concert release a few music videos of the gig online and some of the videos are extremely popular. Young musician Debdeep Mukherjee came into the fore after his rendition of Hoyni Alaap went viral. “Budding musicians often see rejections. Album companies reject them. If they agree to make the albums, they don’t help the musicians to create music videos or promote their albums. They don’t get to perform live. I just wanted to create that platform for talented musicians. During the struggle years of Chandrabindoo, we received help from a bunch of people, including
Usha Uthup, Babyda, Joydev Basu, Procheto Gupta and many others. It is because of their support, we could carry on with our music. This terrace concert and making the videos is my way of paying back to society. There are people who find entertainment in watching a film or hanging out with friends. This is my kind of entertainment,” said Upal.
