City-based percussionist Avirup Das, popularly known as Bunty, has come up with his new band, Bunty’s Percussion Methodize (BPM). The musical outfit comprises Nilanjan Ghosh, Suman Chakraborty, Satyajit Mukherjee and Tushar Banerjee.
Bunty, who is also the drummer of city-based folk band Fakira, is gearing up to launch a new single during
Durga Puja. The name of the track is Instruless, since no instrument will be used in the recording of the single.
Instead, the band members are planning to use items thrown away as garbage. They will reuse them as percussions. Bunty said, “After a successful show of BPM recently, we have been getting a lot of calls to perform at different concerts. We also want to include some new musicians to be a part of our band, apart from the already established percussionists from the city. I am planning to do this new single for an opening ceremony of a certain Durga Puja. Talks are also on about performing this single at another Puja.”
Talking to us about the formation of the new band, the drummer added, “The sole motive behind conceiving the BPM project is to spread the message of unity through music. About 18 musicians have performed together in our previous shows, and we want to increase our family by welcoming others. The main challenge is to stay together, despite differences of opinions about the tracks we will be composing in the future.”
Bunty, who is also dividing his time between playing in the BPM project and in Fakira, will be travelling to New Delhi and other cities for Fakira’s Puja concerts.
