Surojit to spend his Puja in the US

Surojit Chatterjee will be travelling to the US for Durga Puja. His music outfit, Surojit O Bondhura, has six shows lined up in places like New Jersey, Detroit, San Francisco, Charlotte and Austin. “It’s been 15 years that I have not spent Durga Puja in Kolkata. I would travel to places like Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi and abroad. Over the past three years, I have been going to the US for shows organised by the Bengali communities there,” he said.Surojit said his wife and daughter have got used to his absence during Bengal’s biggest festival. “When my daughter was young, she would get very upset. Now, she understands that it’s my work,” he said. Surojit said he prefers coming back to the city before Lakkhi Puja. “I have a Puja at home. Every year, I try to be back by that time. I have a lot of friends in the city who wait for me to come back. I also organise Bijoya gatherings at my place. Having said that, travelling too is fun. Wherever I go, I meet new people. Some of them become friends and we stay in touch. That way, Puja is a great time to bond,” he said. Surojit said his lineup of songs for the show season is ready. “There’s a lot of query for Rangabati. I am looking forward to singing it. That apart, there will be songs like Barandaye Roddur and Chol Polaye Jai, among others. I have already started rehearsing for the shows,” he said. Surojit will be leaving the city on September 24.
