Singer
Subhamita Banerjee
released her new single for
Durga Puja on Friday. The song, Ajana Gaaner Ajaan, has been composed by
Joy Sarkar.
Subhamita also used the occasion to launch her
YouTube channel. The singer said that this is her first such venture after setting up her own production recently.
Talking about the new trends in Bengali music,
Subhamita said that singles are making a comeback in a big way and it is benefitting the music fraternity a lot.
“First of all, singles are making the musicians independent. Earlier, singers were dependent on the music companies, but now they are writing, composing and singing their own songs,” she added. This, according to her, gives musicians the opportunity to become much more independent.
Besides, she said that the audiences today are not as patient as they once used to be. “No one wants to listen to eight to ten songs in one album. Rather they prefer listening to one song that connects them with the singer. I think this is also a reason why singles are coming back in trend,” she added.
Talking about the reach of web,
Subhamita said that nowadays hardly anyone listens to music on a proper music system. Mobile phones or other portable digital music systems are widely used by the listeners today. “Even I do not have a decent music system at my place and rely mostly on computers to listen to music,” she said, adding that owning an independent system has only one disadvantage. “It cannot match the infrastructure of a proper studio,” she signed off.
