Musician Sounak Chatterjee is all set to stage his next production Ode to Joy — a concert that the musician wants to dedicate to spread peace, brotherhood and love. “I take the liberty to describe this concert as a ‘symphony of arts’, rather than a collage. I do hope, that this concert lives up to its description and its uniqueness, both in terms of content, conceptualisation and execution,” the musician said.
According to Sounak, the programme interprets and responds to the concepts of war and violence in different nations and in different ages.
"We will present a tapestry of some such most brilliant works of art by masters like
Rabindranath Tagore, Beethoven, Pablo Picasso, Charles Chaplin, William Shakespeare and others. The Title of the concert, “Ode to Joy”, has been derived from the famous poem by German Poet, Freidrich Schiller. It was further immortalized by the use of the lyrics of the poem by Beethoven in the fourth movement of his ninth and last symphony. The poem speaks of brotherhood and the tune composed by Beethoven, has eventually been adopted as the Anthem of Europe,” he said.
The concert will take place on February 2 at a city auditorium. “There is something special about the choice of the date. The date was inspired by the famous biographical film, The Pianist, based on the story of the legendary Polish Pianist Wladyslaw Szpilman, directed by
Roman Polanski. Most likely, Szpilman came back to music on this day,” said Sounak.
It is also a celebration of the 10
th anniversary of Chinton — the musicians school. “The journey began in 2009 with the first show on Valentine’s Day in Kolkata, with
Parambrata Chatterjee, Debolina Dutt, Shreya Guhathakurta and me being the main performers. Over the past ten years we have had the privilege of working with some of the greatest artistes and performers of Kolkata/ India as well as young and upcoming artists,” Sounak said.
