Sahajiya performs with Gilbert Pounia in France

As the whole of India gears up to celebrate the Festival of Lights, our very own folk band from Kolkata, Sahajiya, has already set pulses racing in Reunion Island, France.
The band — comprising Deb Chowdhury, BappaSengupta, Lakhan Das Baul and RinaDasiBaul — has been invited to be a part of the Dipavali Celebration in the Island. Sahajiya has been touring different cities in France since October 18 and presented the final gig with Gilbert Pounia, frontman of Ziskakan from Reunion, on Wednesday.“It's been a great experience. This was for the first time that a band from Kolkata was invited there and obviously then, we feel honoured. The idea was to spread the light of Bengali folk music around the world. This event gave a big boost to world folk music," said Deb from France.
The band had a total of five performances including a workshop on folk music with local kids. “The seminar on Bangla folk music and world music was a big success and my paper was well appreciated by all present," Deb added. Baul music from Bengal is sure making Diwali in France a special one.
