Sahajiya folk band puts up a rocking performance at a city club

Deb Chowdhury and his Sahajiya Folk band staged a solo concert after a long lull of the pandemic to celebrate 44th anniversary of a city club. Sahajiya presented a musical journey of evergreen Bengali traditional folk songs that ultimately resonated in the world of music. Bangla Dhol, Sri-Khol, Dotara, Ektara, Khamak, Dubki, Flute and Dhamsa came together with Lead Guitar, Bass Guitar, Tennor Banjo, Cajon, Darbuka and other world percussions created surreal surroundings. Sahajiya presented songs of different folk genres like Shah Abdul Karim’s Murshid Dhono He, Hason Raja’s Baula Ke Banailo Re, Radharaman’s Bondhu Bine, Haure Gonsain’s Kon Bindu Te, Bhawaiya’s Prem Jane Na Rashik Kalachand and more along with his own compositions. He also shared the journey of a Bhawaiya song of 1950’s that was used by Bappi Lahiri in his Bollywood hit Yaar Bina. Audience cheered when Deb sang two of his own compositions.

A tribute to Mohineer Ghoraguli and Choraiyer Gaan was also paid. The band, comprising Deb, Tarun, Arnab, Rudraneel, Samm, Baku, Indranil and Shankar had the audience dancing-singing and rejoicing as Sahajiya’s entertaining performances enthralled the auditorium. Sahajya closed their performances with the groovy Bihu number Tuk Dekhi Murga blended with Komolay Nrittya Kore.
