Bob Dylan, a celebrated pop icon for more than five decades, turned a year older on May 24. Now, a series of music concerts has been lined up in the city to mark the birthday of the American singer-songwriter, author, and painter. Considered the ‘voice of a generation’ for the impact that his songs like Blowin’ in the wind and The times they are a-changin had on the Civil Rights Movement and anti-war movement in the ’60s, Dylan’s music continues to inspire music lovers the world over.
Among his ardent fans is cinematographer
Ranjan Palit of 7 Khoon Maaf fame. Come
Sunday and he will not only sing a dozen of Dylan’s songs at a south Kolkata cafe, but also talk about them. “There will be songs like To Ramona, It’s all over now baby blue, A hard rains a-gonna fall, It takes a lot to laugh, it takes a train to cry, among others. As a Dylan fan, I wanted to celebrate his 77th birthday and joining me will be a surprise harmonica player,” said Palit, who is all geared up for the show.
