‘Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1’ singer Antara Nandy makes her dream Bengali debut with ‘Chandni Raate’

Antara Nandy is on a high after her grand playback debut with A.R. Rahman’s soulful number ‘Alaikadal’ in Mani Ratnam’s period drama ‘Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1’. The former student of Kolkata’s Delhi Public School Ruby Park recently saw her yet another long cherished dream coming true. Antara always wanted to record an original Bengali song and this finally happened with the recently released ‘Chandni Raate’.

“Working in the Bengali industry has been a dream for me. ‘Chandni Raate’ hasn’t just made that dream come true but it helped me discover a new side of me as an artist,” says an excited Antara for whom the biggest learning from the Oscar-winner Rahman is that it’s not always about hitting the correct notes in a song, it’s more about getting the emotions right.

Her first Bengali original song has been composed by Nilanjn Ghosh with a unique soundscape and the music video features Antara herself, Amrita Halder and Ricky Tewary.
“We are thrilled to release Antara’s first Bengali original song; a singer who has also recorded for A. R. Rahman. It is indeed a privilege to be a small part of her musical journey. Our thanks to Nilanjan for bringing such a stand out composition our way. The music video is sensual and romantic just like a moonlit night. We are hopeful that listeners will welcome this creation,” says creative director of the music video,
Jonai Singh.
Meanwhile, Antara adds, “I am eternally grateful to Jonai di for this opportunity, to Nilanjn da for making this phenomenal song and for being super supportive throughout the process, to the entire crew for putting together a stunning video, to Anupam da for making me look my best.”

For those who don’t know, Born in Assam and raised in Kolkata, Antara started to learn music from the legendary Ustad Rashid Khan. After participating in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs at the age of nine, she resumed her training as a scholar at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy in Kolkata and since then she never had look back. In fact, the gifted singer along with her sister have created a space online as Nandy Sisters, through their #BalconyConcerts on social media which has been a major hit.
