Singer-music director Papon who is in the city for a World Music Day concert has a special place in his heart for the Kolkata audience.
“They are one of my favourite audiences. When performing here, I have the option to switch from Hindi to Bengali and seriously I have so many fans here who love my independent music as well. Plus, there is a wide range of songs I can perform in Kolkata.

I can also sing my most preferred Bengali songs. Everybody knows the eastern part of India is all about melodies,” said the popular singer who will sing one a famous Bengali song by Manna Dey and a Hindi song by Hemanta Mukhopadhyay at the music concert.
Not many people know that Papon used to come to Kolkata with his singer parents Khagen and Archana Mahanta during his childhood and used to stay at the Assam House on Russell Street.
On the work front, apart from some Bollywood projects, Papon has recently wrapped up the recording and shooting of a unique musical initiative of Bangladesh.
