Musician from Bengal finds a foothold in Bollywood

Young musician Dev Arijit started his journey in Bollywood with a playback in Anurag Kashyap’s Mukkabaaz. The song, Bohot Dukha Mann, was composed and co-sung by Rachita Arora. Now, Dev — a musician from Bengal — is part of several other Bollywood projects. Recently, Sushant Singh Rajput lip-synced to his playback for an online film.

After his Class X boards, Dev started training in music under Nihar Ranjan Lala and later, Gautam Bhattacharya, in Berhampore, Murshidabad. In 2007, he formed a rock band in Murshidabad along with childhood friends. He met Arijit Singh in the year 2011. “It has been about six years since I started living and working in Mumbai. I was a musician in Murshidabad and that’s when I met Arijitda (Singh). He recommended me to come to Mumbai and assist Pritamda. That’s how my journey in Mumbai began,” said the young musician, who assisted Pritam in Dhoom 3, Shaadi Ke Side Effects, Phata Poster Nikhla Hero, R… Rajkumar, Jagga Jasoos, among others. From 2015, he started assisting Arijit Singh and became a member of Arijit Singh Live band and performed with him all over the globe. Besides that, he started working as a freelancer music producer.

Dev has also worked in the Bengali music industry. “I assisted Arindom Chatterjee. My first Bengali playback was in December 2016 for Haripada Bandwala. It was my work with ID (Indraadip Das Gupta). Also, another number, Rongeen from Tomake Chai, became popular. I am planning to record an independent Bengali single too. I do a lot of scratches and some of them will be released soon,” Dev signed off.
