Kolkata-based English band releases new album
The band music culture, after being made popular by Bangla bands in the ’70s, is still going strong. While naysayers may point out at the mushrooming of various bands that hardly have any takers, followers wait eagerly for their releases. The latest addition to the current crop of bands is the Kolkata-based English band, Pelican Shuffles. Trying to make a mark in the current music scenario in the city, the band has come out with their latest album, Battleground Dreams.
“The revamped version of our band, which started in April 2017 with the Rock n Roll trio and their crazy energy, has a massive catalogue of original songs. The trio —Varun Gujadhur on vocals and guitar, Shubhamoy Mitra on bass and Aditya Dutta on drums — have made some great compositions,” said Shubhamoy.
The latest album is about conflicting dreams, hopes and desires. The songs — Saturday Morning, Why Did You Do It, Foolish Beings, Cold Shadows and Dreams — analyse life situations, give words to pent-up emotions and speak the youngsters’ language. “We guys have played gigs all over Kolkata, including popular nightclubs. We have also made our presence felt in Delhi and Gurgaon nightclubs. We launched our first EP, All Shuffled Up, in a Mumbai mall in May 2018. The first EP showcased the punk
