Interdisciplinary artist Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee and his team are set to present an online memorial, on May 16, for Shankha Ghosh, the iconic Bengali poet who passed away recently. The program will start with an oration by Malayali poet and scholar K. Satchidanandan along with reminisces by media personality Chaitali Dasgupta, who was Shankhababu's student at Jadavpur University.
His writings will also be read out in translation by editor and author Arunava Sinha. Shankhababu's poetry will be celebrated by theatre personality
Sohini Sengupta, elocutionists Bijoylakshmi Barman, Pranati Tagore and Madhumita Basu, actresses
Sohini Sarkar and
Nandana Sen, danseuse and acclaimed actress Mamatashankar, renowned actress
Rituparna Sengupta and the legendary
Sharmila Tagore.
The memorial will also comprise Rabindrasangeet by Pramita Mallick, Prabuddha Raha, Jayati Chakraborty, Rohini Ray Chaudhuri, Srovonti Basu Bandopadhyay, Suchhanda Ghosh, Ranjini Mukhopadhyay, Priyam Mukherjee and Ritapa Bhattacharya.
"It's an honour to celebrate the life and writings of one of the most prominent voices of Indian poetry and this is probably one of the only ways to preserve the legacy that he has left behind", said Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee, the mastermind behind this unique show.
