Kamaleswar Mukherjee’s daughter Ujaan
is making her singing debut in Raajhorshee De’s next film, Maya. The film, a dark story based on William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, stars Gourav Chakraborty, Rahul,
Tnusree Chakraborty
, Kamaleswar Mukherjee, Koneenica Banerjee,
Gourab Chatterjee and Rafiath Rashid Mithila. Ujaan, who is excited to do playback in this film for the first time, said, “I had gone meet baba on the shooting floors as he is part of the film. I was waiting for him to complete his shooting when I spoke with the people associated with the film. I told them singing is my passion and they asked me to sing a song. After that they offered me to sing a song in the film,” said Ujaan, adding, “Ronojoy Bhattacharya is the music composer of this song. It is a
Nazrul
Geeti but it has been recomposed in a Sufi and rock format. The song plays a crucial part in the film. The recording of the song will be in August. At present, I am practicing the song regularly.”
Ujaan is a trained classical musician. “Debu jethu (Debojyoti Mishra) took me to Sumanto Saringi, when I was six years old for my music training. And from then on, I am into singing,” said Ujaan.
Will she sing for her father’s film? “Well, if the music director of that film feels my voice will do justice, then why not? But Baba won’t recommend my name anywhere and I don’t want that too. I would love to work with Joy Sarkar, Anupam Roy, Indradeep Das Gupta, Debojyoti Mishra, and others,” she said with a smile.
